Ponca City’s Beginnings
Established in 1893 and named for a local Native American tribe, Ponca City was the home of the Cherokee Outlet, a piece of land assigned to the Cherokee Nation by the federal government. Like much of Oklahoma, Ponca City is still home to a large population of Native Americans. It has also grown to become a national leader in the petroleum industry.
Museums & Landmarks
Today, Ponca City boasts many historical landmarks and museums, like the Marland Mansion, which was home to the family of E.W. Marland in the early 1900s, a politician and oil industry giant. The Conoco Museum takes visitors through the history of the oil business in Ponca City.
